The club will hold its next fall event, a technical talk by Morgan Stanley
followed by a movie, on Thursday 10/25. The talk will be held in
NSH 3002 at 6pm. We will likely move to NSH 1507 for the film, sometime
around 7pm.
The topic of the talk is how Morgan Stanley uses advanced Remote Computing

application services to an increasingly mobile workforce. Topics include
Wireless technologies, VPN / Terminal Services, Unified Communications and
Fixed-Mobile voice convergence.

As part of the Gates Center construction, power will be shutdown to Cyert Hall, which houses our machine room. We will shutdown our machines between 5pm and 9pm on June 27th and plan to have everything back online by 8:30am on June 28th. All club services, including the contributed webserver, will be down. Our tertiary DNS and mail server will remain up, as it is not located in Cyert.

DNS Server Downtime

Sodium, the primary DNS server exploded earlier today. All hosts failed over
to the secondary DNS server, but many accesses were severely delayed by this.
Until sodium can be brought back online, we have removed it from the DNS
server list of all hosts.

Disk issues and downtime

Due to a disk failure over the weekend, some club AFS volumes are not currently online. All user and service volumes, along with the club webpages, have been restored. Some software volumes may not be available. Most public services, including www.contrib and the club Usenet server, are online. However, the club FTP mirrors are incomplete, and some directories may not be accessible or updated. All of these issues will be resolved very soon.

Contrib CGI live!
7/9/2004
Posted by Computer Club

CGI execution on www.contrib is now active. Just name your script with a .cgi extension, give it execute permissions (i.e., chmod +x), and you're good to go!
Important notes:
- Most common scripting languages are installed (perl, php, sh, etc.)
- All scripts must have a pound-bang/shebang (i.e., #!...) invocation at the top of the script, including php (the php apache module is not in use)
Shortly, we will begin offering access to database servers (both postgreSQL and mySQL) as well as more extended documentation on the operation of CGIs on www.contrib.

We have a new website! This one actually has graphics, uses CSS, and will hopefully stay far more up to date than our previous one. And it still looks great in lynx!
Special thanks to Bill Harris for donating the layout.
